Project Showcase
Watch the progression of this small restoration site in Afton, MN. The existing condition was a woodlot overrun by invasive buckthorn, slowly chocking out all other vegetation, leaving an almost bare understory. Regeneration of oak, maple, and other desirable trees didn’t stand a chance under the dense shade, let alone birds and other local wildlife species. After the buckthorn was removed, native species (grasses, sedges, forbs, shrubs and trees) were reintroduced to jump start the restoration process and provide competition for future invasions of buckthorn and other invasive species.
